“On the occasion of the European Year for Development in 2015, the “Netzwerk Entwicklungspolitik im Saarland e.V.” made five short video spots in cooperation with the “Cercle de Coopération des ONG de développement Luxembourg” and the confederation for development “MultiCoolor” from Lothringen. Under the heading „Take out your headphones and listen!“ the short clips show various everyday situations, where people consume or use things without thinking about the consequences, even if they suspect that there is something wrong, such as unfair conditions of production in textile manufacture. In the clip, the consumer suddenly hear „the sound of impact“ and puts on noise-cancelling headphones, so that he/she can ignore the noise. But after some short information and an appeal by a politician, artist or another well-known personality from society to get involved in Europe’s responsibility in the world, the consumer takes out the headphones. With this token gesture at the end of every clip, we want to encourage the viewer to read up on engagement in his/her region and become active. Thereby the clips are intended to raise awareness of activities or events of civil society organizations within the European Year for Development 2015. The clips aim to illustrate the impacts of consumer habits on people in other regions of the world and that our behavior often is unintentional connected with the lives of other people. Therefore, we all have a certain responsibility for each other.”

by Luca Ciriello

“The video talks about part of a process of development cooperation in Tanzania (where I am working as volunteer with children of an orphanage), among two CBR (Community Based Rehabilitation) centers, the Cesc Project, the Dioceses of Mbeya and Njombe, Caritas, Gondwana, Italian and Tanzanian volunteers. The video shows the action of awareness and sale of self-produced Soap and Oil. The SIMAMA Soap is produced by the parents of children with functional diversity in Mbeya Area. The proceeds from the sales goes both to help the families of children with functional diversity (50%) and to support the Community Based Rehabilitation (50%). The INUKA Farm Project, instead, leads to the production of a double refined pure sunflower oil that contributes to the sustainability of the Community Based Rehabilitation and to empower people living with functional diversity through skill transfer and employment. The farm also aims to contribute to food security and poverty reduction in Njombe Region.”

Participants: Simama CBR (Mbeya – Tanzania), Inuka CBR (Wanging’ombe – Tanzania), Cesc Project, Gondwana, Caritas, Mbeya Diocese, Njombe Diocese

HUMAN

by Rūta Krolle

“The intent of this video is to point out that each and every one of us is human first, man or woman second. We believe everyone has the right to feel free to be whoever they want to be, do whatever job they like, play whatever role they so desire. We want to raise awareness of gender inequality towards women as well as men in our society and for it to be recognized as a serious issue that can and must be averted. With this video we want to promote gender equality as one of the basic themes of cooperation development, understanding and respect towards one another. We want to encourage everyone to look past gender sterotypes in every day life, as we communicate with those around us, thus making the world a better place. In the context of this subject, the focus is often on women’s rights. It is not exactly fair against men who don’t do “men’s jobs” and are therefore judged or even disdained. We wish to see society eventually step away from terms such as “a real man”, “women’s chores”, “a man’s job” etc. Ignorance is bliss and it is the lack of information that is often the biggest obstacle in way of preventing discrimination. Be reminded that there is no complete gender equality in any country, European or otherwise. In Latvia the gender equality index is below average within EU, which makes gender equality quite the timely”

People, who’s most wanted thing is to be alive, live in every European country, in every city. But politics has always traded with people’s lives. The war is taking everything even if you are not on a battle field. That’s why I want a fertile and balanced Europe where politicians can offer something better.
It isn’t important what people say if they don’t have faith. Your ideas, your thoughts and faith are capable to change the world.
If you don’t have security, you’ve lost your identity in Europe.
Of course we need to uphold traditions, but we also need to move forward.

In this video we deliberately don’t show the war in East Ukraine, the horror and killed people, because it is really hard to see.

From Shadows to Stars

The European Union represents not only monetary union but a more significant cultural one. Every letter composing the word “E-U-R-O-P-E” introduces concepts that in our opinion connect the countries. Every concept represents one brick and together these milestones build the basis of the political and economic cohesion for our future. The title “From Shadows to Stars” shows it is necessary to shift our vision of Europe from a destructive concept of singularity to a constructive idea of community that will bring wealth to all its citizens.
