“On the occasion of the European Year for Development in 2015, the “Netzwerk Entwicklungspolitik im Saarland e.V.” made five short video spots in cooperation with the “Cercle de Coopération des ONG de développement Luxembourg” and the confederation for development “MultiCoolor” from Lothringen. Under the heading „Take out your headphones and listen!“ the short clips show various everyday situations, where people consume or use things without thinking about the consequences, even if they suspect that there is something wrong, such as unfair conditions of production in textile manufacture. In the clip, the consumer suddenly hear „the sound of impact“ and puts on noise-cancelling headphones, so that he/she can ignore the noise. But after some short information and an appeal by a politician, artist or another well-known personality from society to get involved in Europe’s responsibility in the world, the consumer takes out the headphones. With this token gesture at the end of every clip, we want to encourage the viewer to read up on engagement in his/her region and become active. Thereby the clips are intended to raise awareness of activities or events of civil society organizations within the European Year for Development 2015. The clips aim to illustrate the impacts of consumer habits on people in other regions of the world and that our behavior often is unintentional connected with the lives of other people. Therefore, we all have a certain responsibility for each other.”
